On August 7th 2007, the first anniversary of Olly's accident, Eleanor and his former business partner and friend, Luke Townsend - Eleanor's brother-in-law, undertook a sponsored cycle ride from Lydeway to the Royal United Hospital, Frenchay Hospital, Bristol Royal Infirmary & the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath.
Their route was from Lydeway by road to Devizes then by way of the Kennet and Avon Canal to Bath. After visiting the Royal United Hospital they were able to get on to the National Cycle Route 4 which took them to within a couple of miles of Frenchay Hospital.
(See Sustrans for more details of these routes.)
They then cycled through Bristol to the Royal Infirmary and then returned to Bath on the A431 - a fairly quiet road with some steep hills!
In all they cycled a distance of sixty-five miles.
On October 26th Eleanor, with Olly and his parents,
was invited to Wiltshire Police Headquarters,
where the Wiltshire Air Ambulance lives.
Eleanor and Luke had collected a massive sum between them
and had more than doubled their original target of £1000.
Olly was able to meet Jo Munday, the paramedic who had rescued him,
who then gave the whole party a guided tour of the helicopter.
Eleanor and Olly then presented the cheque for
£2625.
